The Sydney Suburban Electric Train

The Sydney Suburban Rail System changed dramatically on March 2nd 1964, when the first Double Deck Trailer Cars were introduced. History was again created in May 1972, when these trailers were joined by Double Deck Driving Cars thus creating the world's first Double Deck Electric Multiple Unit train. Since then the Double Deck concept has been accepted in Sydney and Newcastle as the standard form of Suburban travel. C3551, the first of a new batch of cars manufactured in Newcastle by a A.Goninan and Co., entered into service on February the 29th 1984. Capable of speeds of up to 115km/h, they are of the Bo-Bo configuration and seat 106 passengers.
